OHIO STATE ISSUE 2
November 2009
For better or for worse, Issue 2 was
passed by Ohio voters, and is now part
of the Ohio Constitution.
It is now up to citizens to make sure
that reasonable, balanced people are
included in the new Animal Care Board
which will be largely appointed by the
Governor.
This Amendment was sold on the premise
that it would lead to standards for
excellent animal care, and excellent
food quality while sustaining the
strength of the agriculture industry in
Ohio.
These promises can only be met if the
persons selected for the Board represent
a broad spectrum of interests and
opinions. For over 130 years, Ohio
has maintained standards that any animal
should not be permitted to suffer
unnecessarily. In addition to this
moral imperative, we understand that
from a practical point of view, the
mistreatment and neglect of animals can
lead to health problems among consumers.
